LA contemporary visual artist Patrick Martinez has made some notable work lately, including his Break Bread installation in Bell Gardens and Buy Now Cry Later show.
LA photographer and filmmaker Estevan Oriol caught up with Martinez in his studio, where the artist discusses his methods, work and the themes behind it. Mentioned as well is the ‘LESS DRAKE MORE TUPAC’ sign that hit the net with great buzz, resulting in Drizzy himself buying it.
Martinez had a graffiti background before focusing on painting and going through art school. He works on a variety of surfaces, even on blankets, making paintings and prints. His recent work incorporates neon signs from storefront signage to communicate messages, and captures a unique view of LA and pop-culture vernacular.
